Police in Old Saybrook arrested a man who they said flashed a police badge at a store and used a stolen credit card to buy a gift card.
Police said they were investigating the incident, which occurred at a CVS Pharmacy on the Boston Post Road.
Later in the evening, police said, David Walshe was spotted at the Saybrook Point Inn, where he was using a gift card he reportedly purchased with the stolen credit card to get a spa treatment.
The massage therapist recognized Walshe as a person who allegedly bought items with stolen credit cards in the past and called police.
Walshe fled on foot. When police arrived, he reportedly led them on a chase through the first floor and basement of the inn.
Walshe uses several aliases, and police are still working to obtain his true identity.
While in police custody later Tuesday night, police charged Walshe with an additional 27 crimes, including 10 counts of identify theft and six counts of criminal impersonation.
