A man accused of killing a Westport jewelry store owner in December has committed suicide in prison, according to officials.
Andrew Robert Levene, also known as Robert Thomas, 41, was arrested after he fled the United States and was arrested in Spain on Monday.
Westport police said Levene killed the owner of YZ Manufacturers, LLC, Yekutiel Zeevi, on the Boston Post Road on Dec. 8. and seriously inured his associate.
Police said they believe that Levene pretended he was going to complete the purchase of several large diamonds that had arranged to buy earlier that month when shot and killed store owner and wounded the associate.
He is suspected of also stealing $300,000 in diamonds before fleeing the United States for Europe.
