Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra has ordered flags in the city to be lowered in honor of a city police officer killed in an overnight car crash.
"The City of Hartford mourns the loss of Officer John Marvin, and our heartfelt prayers are with his loved ones on this painful day," Mayor Segarra said. "The fine men and women of the Hartford Police Department risk life and limb daily to protect our City, and every loss deeply impacts us all."
Marvin, 28, was a two-year veteran of the Hartford Police Department. He graduated from the Police Academy in 2009, and joined the Hartford Police Department on Dec. 14, 2009. Previously he had served in Iraq with the United States Navy and was a Sergeant with the Connecticut National Guard at the time of his death.
"It is with deep sense of sorrow that we mourn the loss of one of our family," said Hartford Police Chief Brian J. Heavren today in commenting on behalf of the members of the Hartford Police Department. Officer Marvin was killed in an early morning motor vehicle accident. "Our condolences, sympathy and prayers are with Officer Marvin's family during this time of grief."
