WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Three children were sent to the hospital Monday morning after being exposed to carbon monoxide in their West Hartford home.

According to officials, firefighters were called to the home on Forest Hills Drive just before 4 a.m. after getting reports of a strong smell coming from the basement.

When crews arrived on scene they located a light smoke condition and high levels of carbon monoxide.

According to fire officials, the cause of the carbon monoxide leak was found to be a malfunctioning oil fired boiler.

All three children were taken by ambulance to Connecticut Children's Hospital for treatment, but were released a short time later after being treated.
