NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -
New Britain police are investigating an accident that left one person dead and sent another one to the hospital.
According to police, the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Vine Street, near Adams Street.
Police said the car lost control and struck a tree. The impact of the crash was so strong that it split the car in half.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The passenger was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, he is expected to survive.
Police said the victims are both men in their early 20s.
Vine Street was closed while police investigated and removed the vehicle; it reopened around 4 a.m.
Police said it does not appear the car slowed down at all before it hit the tree. They are looking into whether speed was a factor.
