The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors has restored accreditation to the state's crime lab following improvements to alleviate its backlog of cases, some stretching back years, Gov Dannel Malloy said.
Malloy said in a press release that the news was welcomed and follows "a positive step forward as we continue making improvements to restore the state's crime lab."
He vowed his administration will continue to implement "improved procedures and provide the critical resources necessary, so that once again the crime lab will be a national model."
In August , Malloy formed a panel of 17 key stakeholders to develop a short and long-term strategy for the lab, which had a backlog of cases. Malloy said he also authorized moves to increase staffing at the lab.
