GROTON, CT (WFSB) -
An overturned tractor-trailer carrying oil, which closed Interstate 95 northbound near exit 89 by Flanders Road in Groton for hours Wednesday evening, has left a mess.
According to state police, the tractor and a car collided, spilling some 1,200 gallons of heating oil on the roadway. State environmental crews said it will take at least another day fully clean up the spill
Meanwhile police are still looking for the driver of the car that they believe cut off the truck.
The Department of Environmental Protection was called to the scene because the tractor was carrying 2,400 gallons of fuel.
Crews remained closed for nearly twelve hours as they worked to clean up the spilt fuel.
The highway fully reopened around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
