Crews from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will be back in Monroe Friday to check a pond after oil leaked into it Thursday.
The oil made its way into a storm drain after the fire department said someone went into a vacant home on Bagburn Hill Road and ripped the copper pipes from the house's oil tank.
Now officials from the DEEP want to make sure the oil doesn't end up in Lake Zoar, about a mile away.
The local health department said it will also check to make sure wells in the area haven't been contaminated.
