Studies show that in Connecticut, men get ticketed for distracted driving more than women.
HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -
Who do you think is more likely to get caught talking on a cell phone while driving - men or women? It may surprise you, but Connecticut statistics show in our state that it's men.
The study shows that thousands of people are still picking up their phones and talking while driving and are getting caught. But, it also shows that in six years of tracking distracted driving, it's men getting ticketed more than women.
A review by the Associated Press shows that since 2006, male drivers got between 52 and 54 percent of the annual distracted driving tickets in Connecticut.
Last year alone, men got nearly 16,000 tickets, while women were handed almost 13,700.
And in a state known for insurance, these statistics aren't surprising to experts.
The vice president of the American Insurance Association said male drivers are more likely than female drivers to make risky decisions behind the wheel.
In 2010, highways safety officials said more than 3,000 people were killed nationwide because of distracted driving.
And if you're caught talking on your phone while driving, there's a hefty fine. The first time it will cost you $125, and then $250 each time after.
