EAST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -
There are more allegations of wrongdoing by the East Haven Police Department, and as a result former assistant to former mayor April Capone, Erica Berg, has filed a lawsuit claiming officers violated her civil rights during a 2009 arrest.
The lawsuit was filed against several people, including former East Haven police chief Leonard Gallo, Mayor Joseph Maturo and the town of East Haven.
This comes after Berg and Capone were arrested in 2009 when Capone tried to stop an officer from having cars towed at the town beach when she was mayor.
They were both arrested, but all of those charges were later dismissed.
Berg says legitimately afraid of Gallo.
"You have to face your bully and stand up," she said.
In a written statement, the East Haven's town attorney said "The town takes all claims seriously, especially claims of civil rights and constitutional claims. We are in the process of turning the matter over to counsel for the town and will do all that is necessary to protect the best interests of the Town of East Haven moving forward in this and all matters."
