STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A man arrested by Stamford Police for entering a home on Fifth Street early Monday morning   appeared in court Tuesday.

Stamford officers said the man, later identified as Larry Bowman, 33, was able to enter the home after he found a garage door opener inside an unlocked car.

Police said Bowman first entered the home and walked into a bedroom, where two children were sleeping. After that, he made his way into the bedroom where the parents of the children were asleep.

Police said the couple awoke to find Bowman inside the bedroom. That's when Stamford Police said he was chased out of the home by the homeowners.

"He went into bedrooms where the children slept and where adults were sleeping. He was moving through the house checking for items to take," said Stamford Police Capt. Brian McElliott.

Police then tracked Bowman down and arrested him.

Stamford Police said he was responsible for going through other cars in the neighborhood and stealing items inside.

Bowman kept his head down while prosecutors in court made an argument that his bond should be higher after they said he put four people's lives in danger, including a 9-and-12-year-old.

Prosecutors said Bowman has a history of mental health problems and is currently homeless.

The father of the young girls would only talk to us off camera. He said his girls have not been able to sleep since the crime. On Monday night they all stayed together in one room. But he said they are all relieved that Bowman was caught so they don't have to wonder if he will come back.

Bowman faces several charges including first-degree burglary, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and interfering with police.
