NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) -
The state Medical Examining Board has suspended the license of Dr. Carl Schiano, a Naugatuck doctor accused of destroying medical records, and lying to patients about why he abruptly closed his medical office last year.
Schiano had his license suspended in 2006 for abusing drugs.
Joan Newman and her husband Gary say Schiano was their doctor for a long time but over the past year they suspected he was having problems.
"Several times I went there and he didn't show up for work," Joan said.
In September Schiano suddenly closed his office and didn't tell anyone where he was going.
Health inspectors found Schiano living with two of his former patients, who were accusing Schiano of stealing from them.
Joan is trying to apply for disability but says she can't because she doesn't have her medical records.
