From new roads to school roofs to a brand new highway garage, the town of Canton is considering a multi-million dollar capital project.
The biggest chunk of the bonding project is $7.5 million set aside for pavement management on a number of major road projects, like on East Hill Road.
"The streets, oh heavens. I ride dial-a-ride bus and I'm telling you sometimes it jars your false teeth right out of your head," said Margaret Sangster.
The paving projects include nearly $1 million each for Gracey Road and East Hill Road and filling pot holes and ditches.
The town is also looking at $2.2 million for repairing or replacing roofs at all four of its schools, which are showing cracks and pouring water.
Another project is $1.2 million toward an athletic track and multi-use turf field at the high school.
The fourth project, priced at $7 million, calls for building a new highway garage at a new location. The current one on Old River Road is described as small. It's also in a floodplain.
The total price tag for the four projects is just under $18 million with the bonding package, the town estimates an average mil rate increase of 1.9 percent over the next 15 years.
If the board of finance accepts the proposal on Tuesday night, the bonding package will then be placed before voters in the fall.
