BLOOMFIELD, CT (WFSB) -
A Massachusetts corporation has purchased a historic Bloomfield company famous for its quality deli meats.
Grote & Weigel, which was founded in 1890, was bought by Rachael's Food Corporation, a division of J. Polep Distribution Services of Chicopee, MA.
Grote & Weigel is a producer of superior quality deli meats, hot dogs and sausages.
Adam Kramer, the new president of Grote & Weigel said, "Any time you have the opportunity to acquire a company rich in the tradition of manufacturing the finest quality of food products, you have to be excited."
Kramer said he would retain most of the employees at Grote & Weigel, including former owner Michael Greiner, who will stay on as general manager.
Grote & Weigel will be briefly shut down, and will reopen on Feb. 27.
