Questions linger on Chaplin murder

CHAPLIN, CT (WFSB) -

One week after a  man was stabbed to death in Chaplin and a yet-unidentified  woman was injured,  neighbors are starting to get concerned because state police aren't releasing any new information.

Last week, the  body of 46-year-old Michael Mitchell of Willimantic was found dead on a driveway at 12 Mount Laurel Lane.

State police say he was murdered while an unidentified female who was suffering from stab wounds ran through the woods to a house on Miller Road and hid behind a wood pile.

"You don't know if she's a part of it or she's a victim," said Laura Chesters, who lives nearby

Neighbors want to know if a third person attacked the two. State police will only say  that they are pursuing leads. They tell Eyewitness News they're withholding the name of the female victim for her safety and investigative reasons.

Last week Selectman William Rose emailed residents saying that the incident was not a random house invasion and that the parties involved knew each other.

"I'm very concerned, especially living out in the woods like this. I hope they find her, or whoever it is," said Donna Carpenter.
