A wrong-way driver caused multiple cars to crash on Interstate 91 South in Rocky Hill on Thursday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police said the driver was traveling northbound on the I-91 southbound lane. Troopers were called to the highway after a report of several crashes.
The driver, who was not identified, crashed in the exit 23 area. A trooper took the driver into custody. The driver was then taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital to be treated.
Marie Bedard spoke with Eyewitness News just a half hour after she was in a car driving southbound down I-91 and was almost hit by the car going in the other direction.
"I looked up and I was like oh my God, this guy is like, coming towards us," she said. "My legs are still like marshmallows.
Police said the wrong way driver caused a total of four accidents. No one was seriously injured.
