The board of education in Meriden held a meeting Tuesday evening to discuss a new dress code policy that would prohibit tight-fitting clothes at school.
Board members said clothing like skinny jeans and leggings are too form-fitting and are a distraction.
The proposed ban would include leotards, leggings, skinny jeans and revealing and form-fitting materials such as spandex. The new policy would also require that undergarments be worn inside an outfit.
At the meeting Tuesday evening, one teacher said the debate itself has become the distraction, not the clothes.
The Meriden Board of Education will review the policy again in April and will vote on whether to adopt the changes.
