SALEM, CT (WFSB) -

A shocked and saddened community in southeastern Connecticut will hold a vigil on Thursday for a 6-year-old boy who was tragically killed in an accident involving a wood chipper.

The town of Salem will be holding a candlelight vigil on the town green Thursday.

On Wednesday night at the Salem School, bunches of red balloons were released in memory of first-grader, Jeffrey Bourgeois.

Bourgeois and his siblings were helping their father with landscaping work on Tuesday when the boy was pulled into the wood chipper.

The public is invited to attend Thursday's vigil, which begins at 7:45 p.m.
