Meriden man dies after being struck by taser

State police are investigating an incident involving a taser, after a man died early Saturday morning in Meriden after a reported disturbance.

According to police, Angel Hiraldo was armed inside a home at 10 Grove Street, just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

When police arrived at the scene, Hiraldo was on the front porch of the home, and was armed with a hammer.

After failing to comply with order from police to drop the hammer, Hiraldo reportedly began to advance on officers in a threatening manner. One officer then drew his department issued Taser and struck Hiraldo.

After being tased, police said Hiraldo began having trouble breathing. He was then transported to Mid State Hospital in Meriden, where he was pronounced dead.

State police detectives are now investigating the incident, and have secured the scene. An autopsy will be performed to properly determine the manner and cause of death.

No other injuries were reported in connection to this incident.
