HARTFORD, CT (AP) -

Connecticut lawmakers are facing a looming deadline to finish their work before the legislative session ends.

The General Assembly has until midnight on Wednesday to pass the remaining bills.

Key bills such as a revised budget for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, the legalization of medical marijuana for adults, the abolition of the death penalty for future crimes and an overhaul of the state's public education system have already passed.

However, there are many others still awaiting action.

Some remaining bills would impose standards for utility companies for service following storms and require most residences to have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

It's unclear whether there will be enough support to increase the minimum wage or legalize mixed martial arts in Connecticut.
