NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

New Haven police are investigating the shooting death of a man n Tuesday afternoon.

Police said 20-year-old Tyrell Tribeel was shot and killed near a busy shopping area and close to two schools that had to be put into lockdown as police searched for a van possibly connected to the shooting. 

The shooting was reported near the intersection of Elm Street and Whalley Avenue before 2 p.m. and as a result, Hill Regional Career High School and Strong Elementary School were locked down. The lockdowns were lifted around 3:30 p.m. 

Police said they found a tan Chevy Astro van with Pennsylvania license plates unoccupied on Vine Street they believe might be involved with the shooting.
