The Fossil Creek area of the Coconino National Forest, closed since June 6 because of extreme fire danger, will reopen Friday.
The U.S. Forest Service said recent rains and higher humidity had officials lifting the closure starting at 8 a.m. Friday.
While gas stoves are allowed in the area, there is a permanent ban on campfires and charcoal in the Fossil Creek area.
On the weekends, vehicle access is limited into Fossil Creek on Forest Road 708 from Camp Verde and to the Fossil Spring Trailhead parking lot from Strawberry.
For more information, call the Fossil Creek hotline at 928-226-4611.
