Joseph Boucher
AVON, CT (WFSB) -
A man turned himself in to Avon police Friday after being accused of recording people using the bathroom with a company issued phone at his place of employment.
Police said Joseph Boucher worked in the IT department for Apple Rehab and placed his company issued iPhone in a Kleenex box to record the individuals.
Police were made aware of the discovery on April 25.
Avon police said the Kleenex box had a small hole with the camera lens of the iPhone placed against the hole and was placed on the back of a toilet with the hole and camera lens facing outward toward the bathroom area.
When the iPhone was found by a female employee, officers said, it was actively recording and streaming live video and audio to Boucher's company issued computer.
On April 26, members of the Avon Police Department said they executed a search warrant at Boucher's home.
A digital forensic exam was conducted on the iPhone that was found, as well as other items of digital media and computers.
Boucher was arrested Wednesday and was charged with three counts of voyeurism and was released on $50,000 bond.
On Friday afternoon, Executive Vice President of Apple Rehab Brian Bedard released a statement and said, "We were clearly shocked and saddened by this act. Our focus remains solely on the well-being and security of our valued employees who have been and continue to be provided with access to counseling and services through our Employee Assistance Program. We are a close knit family at Apple and we will do whatever it takes to ensure our employees have the support they need to move past this. At this juncture, our employees need time to heal and we are asking the media and the public to respect their right to privacy."
Boucher was given a court date of June 6.
