FARMINGTON, CT (WFSB) -
Police have arrested the man they said exposed himself to at least one child over the weekend in the Westfarms Mall.
According to Farmington Police, they began receiving several phone calls after photos of the suspect were aired by the local media.
Police said all the callers identified the individual as 50-year-old Alan Stuart Hickey, of Windsor.
Police said they tracked Hickey electronically and located him at the Mohegan Sun Casino.
Connecticut State Police and Mohegan Sun Police located Hickey in the casino and placed him into custody without incident.
According to police, Hickey had cut his hair and shaved his facial hair in an apparent attempt to conceal his identity.
"We feel horrible," said Bob Borden. "Had we known he was of that character we would have never let him in the house."
Borden said he recently rented a room to the 50-year-old. He said he feels bad because he barely knew Hickey, but a mutual friend vouched for him so he let him rent a room at his home in Windsor.
That's when police stopped by again.
"We did a little background and found he had no history," Borden said. "Even police told us the same thing."
Police charged the divorced, unemployed father with third-degree sexual assault and public indecency.
Police have also obtained a search warrant for Hickey's residence in Windsor and his vehicle. Officers said several items of evidence were recovered.
He's being held in jail on $350,000 bond, and officials said if he is able to post it, he can't go to the mall or have any contact with the complainant.
Hickey also will require a 24-hour lockdown except for medical appearances.
His next court date has been scheduled for June 25.
