NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) -
An Eagle Scout project by a Naugatuck teen - rehabbing and repairing a number of park benches on the town Green - has been the target of vandals.
Ryan Caulfield, 18, decided to sand and paint the 19 benches for his service project - and late last month, he said he noticed some scribbling and swear words.
Caulfield's father told Channel 3 Eyewitness News that they knew they would be targeted, but not so soon.
"He was a little disappointed, but he took it in stride," said Mark Caulfield, Ryan's father. "He said, 'I did my project, it's just too bad they're not going to last long or look as nice as they did on the first day.' It is what it is."
Caulfield will get his Eagle Scout badge this fall.
