NEW LONDON, CT (WFSB) -
OpSail 2012 Connecticut is hours away and is expected to bring thousands of people to New London.
The event is a whole weekend filled with activities throughout metro New London.
There's an official greeting ceremony Friday afternoon in Niantic where the ships will set anchor for the night.
On Saturday, 22 ships lead by the United States Coast Guard training cutter Barque Eagle, will parade into Thames Harbor.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News' own Kevin Hogan will be the master of ceremonies for the parade review at Fort Trumbull.
There are rides at Waterfront Park along with food booths and other venues throughout downtown New London.
"The highlight of the whole weekend will be the fireworks," said OpSail 2012 chairman John Johnson. "Leading up to the fireworks will be the Coast Guard Band performing for an hour-and-a-half; then Sunday morning we open up with the Navy Band performing at 10 a.m."
