BERLIN, CT (WFSB) -
Fire crews from Berlin and surrounding towns worked to extinguish a large fire that was reported Monday morning.
Berlin police said the fire was reported around 9:30 a.m. at 475 Christian Lane, which is the location for Connecticut Waste Processing Materials, LLC., and is also part of Manafort Brothers.
According to the Manafort Brothers website, the company is one of New England's premier construction companies.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, the building was more than 50 percent involved in the fire and thick black smoke was billowing out from inside.
Emergency crews immediately closed Christian Lane in the vicinity of Willow Brook Drive so they could work on getting the fire out.
While crews were battling the flames, parts of the two-story steel and concrete building collapsed due to the extreme heat of the fire, according to Berlin Fire Marshal Steven Waznia.
No injuries have been reported.
Waznia said fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for hours working on getting the rest of the fire out, and then to begin investigating exactly what started the massive fire.
