Vandals hit three Waterbury pools

WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) -

Every summer families head to the Fulton Park, Washington Park and Hamilton Park swimming pools in Waterbury to try to beat the heat, but after vandals hit the three parks, officials were forced to close them.

Waterbury police said someone broke into the Hamilton Park pool and smeared human feces all over.

Police said at the other two pools, someone cut holes in the fences surrounding them so people could sneak in while they were closed.

City officials were forced to close all three to make repairs and clean the feces, so people were forced to find other ways to beat the heat.

People familiar with the city's pools said that unfortunately vandals hit the pools on a regular basis.

As a result, Waterbury police said they have stepped up patrols around the swimming areas at night.

And while police search for those responsible, city workers said that the pools have reopened and are clean and safe.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call police.
