Three injured in Meriden crash

MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -

Meriden police said a LIFE STAR medical helicopter was called to the scene of a serious crash on Monday evening.

Police said the crash was reported at 4:43 p.m. on New Hanover Avenue and extrication was needed for the driver of one of the vehicles. According to police, a car driven by Gina Dighello-Calabro collided with one driven by Lemuel Cardona.

Police said Dighello-Calabro's car was found to be traveling west in the eastbound lane at the time of the collision and struck the car operated by Cardona head-on.

Dighello-Calabro was flown by Life Star helicopter to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Ashley Kratzenberger, a passenger in Cardona's car, was transported to Saint Francis Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

No one was wearing a seat belt, according to police.
