WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

West Hartford fire crews spent the early Tuesday morning battling a fire at a deli on LaSalle Road.

Firefighters were called to the area of Reuben's Deli around 1:30 a.m. after workers closing up the nearby McLadden's Restaurant noticed smoke coming from inside.

Fire crews rushed to the scene and had to force their way into the deli to get the fire knocked down.

Crews were able to contain the fire to Reuben's, but McLaddens did suffer some smoke damage.

Also, West Hartford fire officials said, the nearby Central Optics also received some water damage while fire crews worked to put the fire out.

West Hartford Battalion Chief Matthew Stuart said if the employees from McLadden's left any earlier, the fire could have spread making damage even worse than it was.

Fire officials in West Hartford said Reuben's has been closed for the past month while undergoing renovations.

Stuart said the owners were getting ready to hire new staff and reopen for business shortly.

The fire was declared under control about an hour later and no injuries were reported.
