Diamond broker sues police over stolen ring

GREENWICH, CT (WFSB) -

A jewelry broker in New York's Diamond District claims Greenwich Police won't return stolen ring after a decades long investigation.

Malidani Jewelry Corp. filed a suit against the Greenwich Police Department on Monday over a 7.74-carat diamond ring that is worth at least $175,000, according to the New York Post.

Greenwich police seized the ring from the store on West 47th Street in 2003.

Malidani said it purchased the ring for a Queens man in 1998 after a "thorough inquiry as to the true identity of the proposed seller and in compliance with the laws of the city and state."

Greenwich Police have refused to return the ring even though its original owner hasn't been identified.
