MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -
A Newington woman was arrested after being found passed out inside a vehicle with her 4-year-old child unrestrained in the car.
Police responded to reports that a woman was slumped over in her vehicle on Newfield Street in Middletown at the end of June.
When police arrived at the scene, they said Alanna Johnson, 30, of Newington, was slumped over, leaning against the driver side door with the window slightly down.
Police said Johnson didn't respond when the officer repeatedly knocked on the window. The officer reached into the vehicle and began to shake Johnson in an attempt to wake her up with no success.
The officer was then able to unlock the door and the child was removed and placed in the officer's vehicle.
Still, Johnson would not wake up.
After a few minutes, Johnson responded and police said her eyes were bloodshot and her speech was slowed and slurred.
Officers said she smelled of alcohol and failed all three sobriety checks.
Police said she registered a .199 and .201 blood alcohol content.
She was arrested and charged with:
- Risk of injury
- Transporting a child under 6 without a child restraint system
Police said Johnson couldn't find anyone sober enough to pick her up from jail so she was held until she sobered up.
She was released on $2,500 bond and was expected to appear in court Tuesday.
