NORWALK, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Norwalk are on the lookout for a man who walked into a pet store and stole a $3,700 puppy.

Puppies of Westport owner Monty Kaufman said a man and his son walked into the store on Monday morning to buy the $3,700 champion English Bulldog.

Kaufman said the man presented his American Express card for the purchase, but the card didn't swipe properly.

So, Kaufman said, the man told him to type the numbers in manually because the card had a bad magnetic strip.

The purchase was approved, but Kaufman said he and his employees became suspicious and requested his driver's license and decided to call American Express for direct confirmation.

He presented it and the license, which had the man's name as Henry Ramsey from Brooklyn, NY and was the correct photo.

While on the phone with American Express, Kaufman said the man ran out of the store with his son and the dog and got into his vehicle and started to drive away.

The store employees chased them down, and one of them was almost run over as the man tried to get away.

The card turned out to be fake as well as the man's license.

During the chase, employees were able to get the license plate number, but Kaufman said the plate was stolen from another vehicle in Bridgeport.

Kaufman said he is offering a $500 reward for the return of the 12-week-old puppy.

Anyone with information about the stolen puppy is asked to call police immediately.
