Man to be sentenced for shooting Stamford officer

HARTFORD, CT (AP) -

A drug dealer who shot a Stamford police sergeant in the face in 2010 is set to be sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ephraim Goitom of Stamford is due in federal court in Hartford for sentencing Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in April to possession of PCP with intent to distribute and use of a firearm during a narcotics trafficking offense.

Goitom shot Sgt. Richard Gasparino in the cheek on Dec. 9, 2010, as Gasparino and other narcotics officers prepared to execute a search warrant at Goitom's apartment. The wound required more than 100 stitches and left a scar on Gasparino's face.

Goitom is also scheduled to be sentenced for the shooting in state court July 25 to a 25-year term that would run concurrent with the federal sentence.
