FARMINGTON, CT (WFSB) -
A man from Florida has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his father in Farmington four years ago.
Police in Florida arrested Michael Elliott Whilby, 38, on Tuesday, charging him with the 2008 murder of his father, Evans R. Whilby.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2008, Farmington police were sent to a home on Dunne Wood Court and found Evans Whilby, 66, dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs.
Michael Whilby was at the home at the time and called Farmington police to report his father's death.
Police said Michael told them that his mother had called him from Las Vegas, asking him to check on his father because he was supposed to meet with her in Las Vegas on business, but never arrived.
Police said Michael told them that when he arrived at his parents' home, his father's car was in the driveway. He said he entered the home and found his father at the bottom of the stairs.
At the time, Farmington police said, evidence showed that the death was accidental.
On June 29, Melbourne Beach, FL Police called Farmington police to inform them that Michael had confessed to them that he killed his father in 2008 by pushing him down the stairs.
Farmington police reopened the case and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
He waived extradition to Connecticut and was brought back and is being held on $1 million bond.
