HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -

Police are investigating an overnight shooting in Hamden.

It happened around midnight in the area of Shelton Avenue, according to officials.

Neighbors in the area told Eyewitness News that they heard up to seven gunshots overnight.

"I took my daughter off the bed and put her on the floor," said nearby resident Angela Fraser, who told Eyewitness News that violence in the area has been on the rise. "It's never been this bad."

Fraser's home was struck by a stray bullet, which came just inches from her living room.

"I'm very scared, because my daughter likes to play outside in the backyard every day," said Fraser.

Police said a female victim was shot and was taken to St. Raphael's Hospital. Authorities have not yet released the woman's identity or current condition.

Officials said they are looking for a suspect, although they have not yet released a description.
