New Haven to open cooling centers Tuesday & Wednesday

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

The city of New Haven announced Monday that it will open cooling centers starting Tuesday to help residents beat the heat.

The following locations will serve as a cooling center for the general public during normal business hours:

  • New Haven Free Public Library Main Building, 133 Elm St., from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Fair Haven Branch Library, 182 Grand Ave., Tuesday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
  • Mitchell Branch Library, 37 Harrison St., Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
  • Stetson Branch Library, 200 Dixwell Ave. in the Dixwell Plaza Tuesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Courtland Seymour Wilson Branch Library, 303 Washington Ave., Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The following locations will serve as a cooling center for seniors only:

  • Atwater Senior Center, 26 Atwater St.
  • Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Center, 255 Goffe St. (People with wheelchairs will need assistance to help travel up ramp.)
  • East Shore Senior Center, 411 Townsend Ave.
