ROCKVILLE, CT (WFSB) -

Rockville High School Principal Eric Baim was placed on leave after being arrested and charged with drunk driving.

"Most kids in my school say he's a pretty cool principal," said Rockville High School junior Anthony Jordan.

Berlin police arrested Baim early Friday morning and charged him with driving under the influence as well as failing to obey a traffic signal.

"I'm totally surprised," said Vernon resident Dianna Jordan. "I don't know what to think about it."

Officials with Vernon Public Schools said Baim has been placed on administrative leave pending a school board vote, and officials in the school district have been instructed to keep quiet about the pending charges because it's a personnel matter.

The school board will discuss the matter at a meeting next week.

He is due in court July 27.
