STRATFORD, CT (WFSB) -
The United States Coast Guard has called off a search for a man who was reported to be swept off a sandbar into the Long Island Sound.
Officials from the Stratford Fire Department, the Stratford Police department, and the United States Coast Guard began their search around 9 p.m. Friday, after it was reported that a male victim was missing in waters of the Long Island Sound.
Officials said the search was called off early Saturday morning, after a thorough check of the area.
An official from the Coast Guard told Eyewitness News that reports of the man going into the water may have been false.
No other information has been released.
