DARIEN, CT (WFSB) -

Police have arrested four people accused of trying to use counterfeit money at several stores in the area.

According to authorities, one of the suspects tried to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at Leary's Liquor Cabinet on Heights Road on Thursday. After they wouldn't accept the money, police said the suspect then went to a nearby Stop and Shop and was able to make a purchase there.

Police located the suspect in the parking lot of the grocery store, and determined that money he used was counterfeit.

Police then located three other suspects in the car, as well as several other counterfeit bills, adding up to nearly $3,000.

Police also found goods that had been purchased with counterfeit money at other local stores in the Darien and Stamford area.

Police arrested the suspect, who had made the purchase at Stop and Shop, as well as the three other people in the car. All of the suspects are from Brooklyn, New York.

They are all facing several charges, including first-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny.

One suspect posted bail. The three other suspects are being held on $10,000 bond.
