Torrington police investigating shots fired in neighborhood Saturday

TORRINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Torrington police are investigating who fired several shots Saturday night.

Officers were called to the area of 330 Highland Avenue which is the Woodland Hills apartment complex, around 6 p.m. after they received reports from neighbors of several gun shots being fired.

Police recovered several shell casings and other evidence from the scene.

Police said neighbors reported seeing a small black hatchback and a second vehicle that was possibly a Honda fleeing the scene.

Police said they located and attempted to stop a Mazda Protege hatchback a short time after, however the vehicle fled, leading police on a short chase.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle when it pulled into a driveway on Red Mountain Avenue.  Police said the driver, 18-year-old Christian Franco, claimed he did not know police were attempting to pull him over and that he was a victim of the shooting, not the suspect.

Police arrested Franco and charged him with reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit and operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license.

A short time later, a second vehicle, a Honda Civic, arrived at the Red Mountain Avenue home.  Police also detained the two occupants of the vehicle in questioning with the shooting incident.  One of the occupants told police he fled the area of the shooting earlier in the evening so he would not be injured.

Torrington police are looking for a Hispanic man in his 30s approximately 5-feet 5-inches tall and 150 pounds. He may have left the scene in a green four-door early 2000s Buick Century with partial license plate 714.

Police said they don't believe anyone was hit by the shots, but their investigation is ongoing and will be stepping up patrols at the apartment complex for the time being.

Police are asking anyone who may have information to call them at 860-489-2008.
