VERNON, CT (WFSB) -

Vernon police said they were investigating a crash in which a 13-year-old boy was hit by two vehicles on Monday afternoon.

A LIFE STAR medical helicopter was called to the scene after the incident was reported on Union Street around 2:30 p.m.

Police said the boy was riding on Union Street when he was hit by one vehicle and then flew onto another vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Dennis Nevin was the driver in the second vehicle and has blood all over his clothes after trying to help the teen.

"Before I knew it, he darted into the road," he said. "An oncoming vehicle struck him. He then struck my vehicle, almost coming inside my driver's side window. The mirror is gone. He did damage to the side of my car. I immediately got out and called 911."

The identity of the boy on the bike has not been released, but officials said he sustained serious injuries and was not wearing a helmet.

Joshua Crispim said the teen's name is Justin, and he is best friends with his younger brother.

"Normally my brother is always riding with him," he said. "He always rides on the back of the bike, which is why it kind of freaked me out because the one day my brother isn't here, this happens."

Just like any other day, Crispim said Justin rode over to his house.

"He stopped by my house I want to say 20 minutes prior looking for my brother and then I told him he wasn't here so he left my house like normal," he said. "I hear a noise and I walk outside."

Crispim said he walked outside and saw the 13-year-old lying in the street and was not wearing a helmet.

A police substation is located near where the crash occurred, and police were at the scene in less than a minute.

The incident is under investigation.
