EAST WINDSOR, CT (WFSB) -
A 15-year-old East Windsor girl was killed in an ATV accident off Windsorville Road on Monday night.
Emergency officials responded to the Carbonneau Gravel Pit, which is popular with ATV riders, after receiving word of the crash just before 9 p.m.
The victim, who has been identified as Nicole Weed, 15, of East Windsor, was brought to a local hospital where she later died as a result of her severe injuries.
Emergency officials said it didn't appear as though Weed was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
"Nicole was a wonderful girl taken too soon," said Teri Weed, Nicole's mother. "She was a beautiful girl. She has two sisters who love her dearly, along with many friends and family. She will be truly missed."
The Metro Traffic Services accident reconstruction team responded to assist, and the incident currently remains under investigation.
School officials in East Windsor said they have obtained grief counselors for students to speak with if they need help coping with the death of Weed.
Grief counselors will be available at the East Windsor High School media center:
- Tuesday 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
- Wednesday 9 a.m. until noon, and then 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
- Thursday 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
- Friday 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
"Nicole was looking forward to sophomore year and all new activities," Teri Weed said. "She was in chorus, Seussical the Musical, track and cheerleading."
