ENFIELD, CT (WFSB) -
A social studies teacher at Enrico Fermi High School in Enfield now faces four counts of sexual assault.
The teacher, identified as Tyler Wells, turned himself in to police on Wednesday morning after learning of a warrant for his arrest in connection to allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a Fermi student.
Wells and his family slipped out the back door at court on Thursday, but he was not able to hide details of his arrest that were in a court affidavit that his lawyer tried to have sealed.
It details alleged kissing, touching and texting.
Wells was placed on leave from the school after it was revealed in mid-June that investigators were looking into the allegations that involved him and the student.
"I'm kind of shocked that this is coming out," said junior Jessica Dellaquila. "We definitely feel bad. I know he was engaged to another teacher and we loved them. They were such a cute couple and it's really sad."
Court documents said a student of Wells' told investigators she made out with Wells around 30 times in his classroom, and he also touched various parts of her body at least four different times in the same room.
"These incidents were alleged to have occurred during the past school year that just ended," said Chief Carl Sferrazza, of the Enfield Police Department. "These activities occurred in the school."
Wells' attorney Steve McEleney wasn't talking either after he slipped his client out the back door of the court house.
"We have no comments at this time," he said.
Enfield superintendent said the lifelong Connecticut resident who went to Enfield High School, Yale University and Wesleyan University remains on paid administrative leave.
Officials said until the matter is over, they don't know if he will return to the school.
Police said Wells was not as cooperative as they had hoped.
They said his attorney refused to let him speak to investigators.
Wells was also the running back coach for the Wesleyan University football team, but the university hasn't said if he will keep that position.
