State police identify victim in suspicious death in Groton

GROTON, CT (WFSB) -

Connecticut State Police and the State Police Major Crime Squad are continuing to investigate the untimely death of a woman who was found at Bluff Point in Groton.

According to officials, the woman's body was found near Groton Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency responders examined the woman and pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to Lt. Vance of State police, the woman has been identified as Tricia Beattie, 36, of Ledyard.

An autopsy is expected to take place in order to determine the cause of death.

Officials said Beattie was last seen around 1 a.m. Saturday morning in the area of Route 12 in Gales Ferry. She was driving a black colored 2006 Kia Optima, with a Connecticut dealers plate XSA-21.

Authorities are searching for the car, which has been missing since early Saturday morning.

Police said several witnesses have been interviewed and that physical and forensic evidence has been taken from the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call State police. Officials said that all information provided will be kept confidential.
