Shelton man killed in crash on Route 8

Posted: Updated:

A man from Shelton was killed after crashing his car into a tree Saturday.

Police said Rodney Francis, 67, of Shelton, was driving southbound on Route 8, just before 5 p.m. Saturday evening, when he lost control and went off the roadway.

Officials said Francis then crashed into a tree in the center median.

When emergency responders arrived, they pronounced him dead at the scene.

Route 8 was closed for several hours Saturday evening, while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.

Police said it was raining heavily when Francis lost control of his car. The weather conditions may have played a role in the crash, according to authorities.

Officials are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call State police Troop I.
