Group rallies around Springfield family facing foreclosure

Posted: Updated:

A Springfield family facing foreclosure rallied for hope Monday night at their house.

The Mendez family got behind on the payments on their Talmadge Drive home that they have lived in since 2005.

Jose Mendez lost his job as a contractor.

The Mendez family said they now have the money but the bank is still filing for foreclosure, forcing them to move out Wednesday because they've been consistently late making payments.

The Springfield No One Leaves Bank Tenant Association (SBTA) is trying to help the Mendez family and said this foreclosure is unnecessary.

"This eviction is unnecessary in our opinion, because they can pay rent and they've offered to pay rent," said Malcolm Chu of the SBTA.

The group will hold a vigil for another Springfield family facing foreclosure Tuesday night.
