Meriden police investigate possible murder-suicide

MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -

A man and woman were found dead inside an apartment Tuesday morning in an apparent murder-suicide.

Police said they were called to the Eddy Road apartment after receiving a phone call from the woman's daughter telling them she was concerned because she couldn't get in touch with her mother.

When police arrived at the apartment, that's when the bodies of the middle-aged man and woman were found.

"We heard in the backyard a 'pop pop pop' sound," said Meriden resident Yolanda Saurez. "We thought it was firecrackers."

Saurez said she wasn't very concerned when she heard the noises on Monday afternoon.

But, as it turned out, those popping sounds may have been gunshots.

"When (officers) got here, things didn't look good," said Det. Lt. Mark Walerysiak. "They forced their way in and found two deceased individuals with gunshot wounds."

Police are not saying how the couple was killed, or their names, but police said this looks to be a murder-suicide.

Police said the gun was found inside the apartment, and the man's truck was towed away on Tuesday afternoon to be searched for evidence.

"I feel sad," Saurez said. "I didn't know what was going on over there. Something happened."
