MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -
Meriden police are investigating an overnight shooting that sent two people to the hospital.
Police said they were called out shortly after 1:30 a.m. to the area of Sherman Avenue and Broad Street after receiving reports of a large fight involving dozens of people.
Officers said about 60 people were involved in the fight in the street and that during the fight, two people were shot multiple times.
"I seen them lying on the ground so I start crying," said witness Chrissy Samela. "I tried helping them but I don't even know what to do."
The SWAT team was called in a short time later to a home on Britannia Street. According to police, several people reported the person they believed to have the gun going into that home.
Police later cleared that house and do not believe anyone inside was connected to the shooting.
Police said the victims, both men, were rushed to an area hospital where they are listed in critical but stable condition. According to police, they were both shot multiple times.
Police are still looking for suspects, and investigating who started the fight.
