NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) -

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro toured damage in Naugatuck left in the wake of flash flooding earlier this week.

DeLauro arrived at Naugatuck Town Hall to meet with Mayor Bob Mezzo and was briefed of the situation, and then traveled to see property damage and meet with homeowners and business leaders who suffered the damage.

"While it is good news the damage was not more extensive, homeowners and business leaders who suffered damage are just now beginning the long process of cleaning up," DeLauro said. "I want to thank Mayor Mezzo for briefing me today and all the local officials who have worked so hard this week to keep people safe."

Naugatuck received nearly five inches of rain in about an hour Wednesday that led to the flash flooding.

Debris littered streets in town, and roads and parking lots were washed away due to the rushing water.

An apartment building was also evacuated after the flooding, and those residents likely won't be allowed to return for weeks.
